I thought the new tax - which is primarily controlled by each State or local Governmental Unit - is when you have to pay for House Keeping because you are out of Housekeeping Tokens.

I just booked a couple nights on bonus time at the Lake of the Ozarks and was charged 10.5%...no house keeping in bonus time.

Lodging tax on rental reservations is a tax charged on a percentage basis of a total reservation charge and requirements are based on city and/or regional laws. At certain locations, cash housekeeping charges are also subject to a lodging tax. Rates vary by resort location and are not determined by WorldMark. The rates are subject to change without notice. Lodging Tax must be paid in full at the time a reservation is made for any of the following resorts.

That is correct.

New Taxes on Housekeeping

If a reservation is confirmed that requires collection of a cash housekeeping charge, an assessed tax will be added to the housekeeping amount and will be calculated based on a percentage of the housekeeping cost.

The tax charge would be on the cash credit cost, just as before January 1, but no tax on housekeeping, because there is no HK charge for Bonus Time.

I talked to customer services and the above tax is charged on all Bonus Time and Inventory Specials.....not when you use credits

But when you use credits, and if you do not have a HK available, you will pay a housekeeping fee, and they will add tax to the fee.

I think it will depend on tax regs. For the State involved.

Canadian Resorts get hit too:

WorldMark Canmore 9%
WorldMark Vancouver 16%
WorldMark Victoria 15%
WorldMark Whistler 15%

Seems any cash payment due on booking (MM,Fax, BT or Housekeeping) attracts the tax

It almost makes sense to assess a tax on "cash" bookings. San Francisco has long been booked that way.

Think of it this way: when you book with your credits, you are booking your "own property." As part of your MFs, you have paid your share of property taxes on the resorts, same as you pay on your home. When you book via BT, IS, FAX, or FT, you are booking outside of what you actually own, therefore, you are "transient" in terms of occupation of that unit. Using other than your credits to book is more like booking any hotel and the TOT makes sense. JMO.
