Close to all the Shopping in this Danish touristy shoppy town Close to Santa Barbara - another great shopping city. Brand new Pool was a comfortable warm temp during Jan. Located in a sunny climate. |

Cons:
|
Some construction defects noted - front door did not seal shut - heat loss and potential for insect entry. Dryer was extremely noisey - difficult to concentrate on watching TV even with the volume up. |

We loved this resort. We spent two nights (one full day here) in a two bedroom. The units were nicely appointed, average sized for WM. Cheryl did the town up right and I drove to the beach past Lompoc for a walk. Can't believe that Trendwest was able to secure a building site in town close to the main shopping areas of this cute Danish town (think Leavenworth, WA on steroids, a cute Bavarian town). It is about a 5 min walk from the resort to the main shopping areas of this town. 200 plus shops with all kinds of variety. 4 or more very good bakeries. Be sure and buy a Almond Butter Ring at Olsen's Bakery on Mission street - looks dried about but absolutely the opposite and oh so tasteeeee! Enjoyed feeding the Ostriches near Solvang. Drove through the Santa Ynez Valley, stopped at the Firestone Vineyard (featured on one of the Bachelor reality shows - Pleeeaassee enough already!). Went through Los Olivos - to early to check out any of the cute shops - Cheryl was hoping to come back - didn't. It looked worth doing if you are staying in the area longer. Santa Barbara is about a 30 min. drive away using 154 past Lake Cachuma. Santa Barbara also has many cute shopping areas on State Street and good resturaunts as does Solvang. The Visitor’s center recommended seeing the Court House in Santa Barbara- beautiful architecture with a great view from the top of the building of the city, mountains and ocean - a must see if you go to Santa Barbara. Nice beach, pier/Warf with a few shops on the pier. Enjoyed the Santa Barbara Mission there ("Qeen of the Missions") There are a number of beaches 15 min - 30 min. away from Solvang, depending on which you go to. Some charge for parking. The one past Lompoc does not. Weather in Jan for us was Sunny, in the 30's before sunrise and around 70 during the warmest part of the day in land at Solvang. Santa Barbara would be less cold at night and less warm during the day. We barely scratched the surface here and would love to go back for a week. You will love this new addition to Worldmark Resorts. Ken |

When we arrived about 3:00pm, we asked if our unit was ready. They said it was not. (I'm sure all units are ready at exactly 4:00pm.) I told them that I did not wish to receive any phone calls from them unless it was a true emergency. When our friend had to go back into the lobby right after we left, the desk clerk was talking to the sales person about me. Pretty funny, but he was snotty. Of couse, they called. We asked about wifi at the check-in and they told us that they didn't have wifi, not even in the lobby. When I got to our unit I checked my computer and guess what, WMSolvang was an available wifi network. It was secured, so I called the front office and spoke to someone other than the rude guy at the front desk and she gave me the key. It isn't "offical" and is best reached in the lobby or game room/lounge area, but often I could access it from our unit. We did like our unit. We stayed in a 2-bedroom queen. Lots of light and a pretty good layout. We didn't miss the murphy bed as we had a friend with us and my husband and myself. It would have been nice (and possible) for the 2nd bedroom to have a pocket door to access the 2nd bathroom. They did have that in the 2-bedroom unit used for the "Owner Update" arm-twisting. We enjoyed the spa in the back of the resort several times. This is a place we're likely to go back to. |

We just spent our FIRST visit at a WM Resort. Our purchase will not be finalized for another day or two, but our kind broker/seller allowed us to book as his guests with bonus time. We chose Solvang because it is only 1 hour from home. When we entered, my husband’s first comment was, “WOW!” We were in building 4 in the back, in a first floor, 1 bedroom unit. My husband expected a little mini-kitchen with a microwave, tiny sink, and half fridge. The full kitchen, spacious living area and cute dining nook fully impressed him. On the first floor, our patio area was visually extended by a grassy area and a view of a vacant field and distant hills behind the resort. We arrived at 2:00 PM and our room was ready. The friendly staff welcomed us warmly and called later around 8:30 PM just make sure everything was okay upon check-in. We were presented with a welcome goody bag with toothpaste, face cream, mints, honey-nut bar, and a vitamin drink. Our room was clean and well appointed with simple and attractive décor. The firmness of the bed was perfect for our preferences. The quality of the cookware impressed me. I expected really light weight stuff, but the frying pan made great pancakes. During our one-night getaway, we walked Solvang, ate a smorgasbord dinner, explored the resort and surrounding residential area, exercised in the work out room, and took a dip in the spa (hot!). While enjoying the spa we spoke with another happy WM owner. We asked and she told us about her WM experiences. The parking lot filled up almost to capacity and the hostess told us they were fully booked (on a Tue. night in Oct.) While we could hear that there were people upstairs, the noise did not distract or irritate us in any way. It actually seemed pretty quiet the whole time we were there. Our stay was perfect, but if asked, I do have one suggestion. Brighter lights are necessary in the bathroom. They seemed more like night lights and could not be used to put on makeup. If you plan to stay longer than a day or two in Solvang, take a magnifying mirror to use in a brighter area (like outside on the patio). My one other regret is the fee to use the pool table and fooze ball table. If we bring our grandkids, I know they would enjoy the games, but I’m too cheap to supply the $$ needed to play. We are thrilled with our new WM purchase and can’t wait for our second trip, wherever bonus time might take us! |

We stayed here forf a mini vacation over Presidents Day. It was convienent being close to the town as most WMs are not walking distance from things to do. The units are new so they were well furnished. We stayed in a fisst floor 3B with some relatives that we had invited. While the living area was a little smaller that what we are used to, it was large enough for 6 adults and two small children to socalize. The table seated 6 so did not accomodate all eight of us but the two kids could sit comfortably at the kitchen island onn the bar stools. The view was good and overlooked a vacant grassy lot, being on a corner unit (though it may be developed in the future). Our lone complaint is the lack of parking. We had a 3B and only one parking space. Our invited guests had to park on the street, and while they could find a spot it was an inconvience. The weather was good for February. Warm enough during the days and a slight chill in the evenings. We had a little reain one night and the resort grounds handled the water well witout a lot of mud. We did take a dip in the pool and found it a little chilly. The town is a great place to window shop and have a meal. The one deli shop that we did visit for lunch was out of bread though. Great wines in the area and it is the place you would like to stay for exploring the Santa Ynez valley. The staff did not have a lot of info on this though and I woudld recommend that you do your research before arriving. |

Solvang resort is a very small resort, so every room is near the pool and rec area, which is nice. There is an "adults only" jacuzzi, which was right outside our room, but the rules didn't seem to be enforced. We were in a 3 bedroom for 3 nights. The resort is very nice. Clean, friendly staff. The location is great. Right at the end of town. Easy walking distance to the "heart" of Solvang. About 15 minute drive to some beautiful waterfalls. A little disappointed with the rec room. The pool tables and ping pong table are in a small area. The t.v. and game tables (checkers, etc.) are in a separate, much larger area. It seemed to us (while trying to play ping pong in a cramped space) that there was a lot of "wasted" space in the t.v. room. No biggie--just an observation. Another surprise was the fact that the cleaning staff left open coffee packets in the room. We just asked for new packets, but I was surprised at that oversite. There was lots of resort noise when we were there, but it was graduation weekend for colleges in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo (which is why we were there), so there were a lot of larger groups and parties. It did quiet down by 10:00 though. If you want to hang out in a cute Danish-themed town, the resort is great. It is a fun place to visit. |
