We stayed for 2 days the second weekend the resort opened. The building is still undergoing renovation. The lobby is tastefully decorated with art deco carpet and chairs a fireplace and tables. There is a flat screen TV also. Right now there is a vending area for snacks the giftshop and sales offices are still underconstruction. There is a small fitness center and a nice business center with 2 computers. There is also a very nice rooftop deck area that is great to relax at. There is no pool and at this time no spa. I do not know if a spa will be added to the rooftop area. There are no grounds since the resort is surrounded by street on all sides. There is a city college across the street which is a decent area to walk. We stayed in a 1 bedroom unit room 301. The rooms are typical hotel suites, that a small kitchen has been added to. The kitchen has a small fridge, sink, diswasher, microwave and stovetop, no oven, and all the typical worldmark kitchen amenities. There is a low bar with 2 kitchen chairs. There is a desk and computer chair on one wall. The living area has one sofa sleeper and a TV cabinet with dvd player. The bedroom has a queen bed, an easy chair and TV cabinet, the bathroom is off the bedroom and the vanity is outside of the bathroom down a small hallway in the bedroom. I would not recommend this for more that 2 people. We had 3 with us the first night since our son decided to stay with us instead of sleeping at the Navy base. The sofa sleeper was very uncomfortable. To watch movies we had to pull over the computer chair. I would not want to stay more than a day or two because of the lack of space. We visited several places while at SD, the mall which is huge, seaport village, Sea world and Coronado Island. All are within a few minutes drive from the resort and access to the freeways is very easy. A few blocks from the resort is University street which has a lot of shopping and starbucks. We may or may not stay here again for short trips to visit our son. If we take the whole family we will trade into the gaslamp or stay in Oceanside. Since there are 5 of us if we take the other 3 boys it rules out SD completly. We enjoyed our stay but we have stayed at nicer hotels around Seaworld that have more amenities for less cost than the bonus time would be for a weekend. I would say overall this resort is worth a look for a short stay but not for a week, and not with a family. You can view the pictures here. http://community.webshots.com/album/551757909aLFgIH |

Pros:
|
Very close location to Balboa Park and Gaslamp district. Great view of the city from the rooftop deck. Easy access from freeway. |
|
|
Cons:
|
The studio units a small, it was difficult to access the desk, washer and dryers are on the first floor only, very limited street parking, onsite valet parking was $23 a day, overall it was expensive for what you got. |

We stayed in a studio (209) an end room, my sister stayed in 207 also a studio, August 7, 8 and 9, 2006. We visited the aerospace musuem(great for grownups), and the science musuems(great hands for kids) in Balboa park an spent a whole day at the zoo. I don't reccommend room 209, it was a bit smaller than 207. The kitchen was functional, but we used the couch and coffee table for a dining table, I guess one of us could have eaten at the desk. The staff was really nice and had good recommendations for restaurants. The decor was nice also, we really enjoyed the rooftop deck in the evenings. We wouldn't stay here again but would opt for Oceanside with its more typical condo units. |

Pros:
|
Urban location w/ easy freeway access. It is close to virtually everything that makes San Diego a popular tourist destination, and a splendid place to live. Great roof top deck w/ an impressive panaramic view of the San Diego bay, Coronado Bridge and the downtown San Diego sky line. Although there is lots of construction, I don't see this changing. Surprisingly quiet and sheltered given the close proximity to congested streets and freeway. |

Cons:

No pool or jacuzzi. Absolutely needs a jacuzzi on roof top. Then, it has the potential to be a unique place. I was told this was in the works but no details were provided. Steep parking fee. There's a parking lot adjacent to the building but WM doesn't own it. Cramped -- this WM resort feels more like a traditional hotel than a resort where one spends lots of time relaxing and enjoying the grounds. |

I am a long time resident of SD. I have not personally stayed at this resort, but I had heard about it and when I spotted it on my drive to work, I had to investigate. Dowtown SD is a booming area w/ the San Diego bay, Gas Lamp Quarter, Horton Plaza, Seaport Village/Marina District, new Ball Park, and Balboa Park w/in its area or abutting its borders. For those who don't mind walking, the resort is w/in walking distance to all. However, its location is a few years before its time. Except for the park like Community College across the street, the resort sits in an area that (as of 2006), is still a little rough. I would walk around during the day (w/o young kids), but I wouldn't walk around at night. This will likely change in the next 3-5 years as the Gas Lamp and ball park related construction expand to this area. Like many of the older downtown buildings, the facility was once a run down SRO hotel catering to low income persons. WM has done an excellent job of restoring and upgrading the facility w/o losing the charm. The art deco design is tasteful and perfect for the architecture. However, to me, the building -- especially the elevators -- still smell musty or odd???? Notwithstanding, if they get a jacuzzi up top, I would love to stay here for bonus time, and I would love to reserve time here for visitors. I didn't see the inside of the actual rooms. I suspect they are small but tastefully decorated like the common areas. Given the configuration, I suspect there is a great disparity in the views. In sum, the resort has a lot of potential if it gets a roof top jacuzzi, and in a few years when the downtown area fully renovates. Until then, it's your only choice for the inner SD area, but you are paying a premium to be well located, not for the resort. |

Pros:

Great location - very near the heart of downtown - $5 taxi ride to the Civic Theater area, rooftop deck unique, great place to see the city at night. |
|

Cons:
|
Small rooms, have stayed 3 seperate nights, but wouldn't want to try to spend a week here (had same problem with a studio unit in Clear Lake, so it is not just San Diego) |

We've actually stayed 3 times now (16 Jun, 28 Jul, and 9 Sep, '06). We live in San Diego county, about 30 miles north of the resort. We had theater tickets and decided it was easier to spend the night instead of driving all the way home late at night. The first night was actually on opening night at the resort. Some construction was still going on, so not all floors were open, and the sales office was not ready. (no loss!) The staff was obviously still learning how to use the computer systems, etc., but they get points for trying very hard and maintaining their composure. On our 2nd and 3rd visits, it was obvious that they had things figured out. The impression on walking in the doors is of opulence. The art deco theme is well done and lush looking. The rooms are small, but nice and quite acceptable. The deck on the roof is pretty amazing. The unit that looks like a jacuzzi in some of the pictures is actually a bar, but we were told that the jacuzzi would end up in that spot when it was installed - should be there by now (Nov. '06) if the schedule holds, but I haven't seen any postings to confirm that. We took a taxi to the Civic Theater - $5, including tip, and took the trolley back - $3, two stops, then a 2 block walk back to the resort. Even though it was late in the evening, we didn't have any problems in the neighborhood or get approached by panhandlers. Several people have commented about the resort being in a "bad" area, but I didn't feel it was so bad (not a great area, but not scary-bad either) Bottom line: great location, very central to the heart of San Diego, we will certainly return eventhough we live so near. |

These are "hotel-style" rooms, so no full kitchen and no washer/dryer in the unit. |

This was our fourth one-night stay at this resort. My office Christmas party took place on one of the harbor cruise boats that evening. I found an opening and booked the single night for us. We were able to check in, relax a bit, change into our evening wear, and still had plenty of time to get on the boat before it sailed at 8pm. The cruise lasted 3 hours and dropped us back on land a little after 11pm. We didn't waste much time, but headed straight back to the resort and settled in for some sleep. A prime reason for staying the night was that we had a breakfast meeting nearby in the morning. For us, not having to drive the 45 minutes or so back home, then returning in the morning made this a wise choice. Living as close as we do, we will surely never spend a long stay at this resort (or Oceanside, which is only 10 miles from our house), but for times like this, it is certainly a good replacement to getting a hotel room for the night. We were in room 513, a 1BR. It is directly across from the elevator on the backside (east side) of the building. I was a bit concerned that Park Blvd. would be noisy all night long, but didn't hear anything. All of our other stays have been in units on the north side of the building, which is on a quiet side street. I thought the 1BR actually seemed a bit more cramped than the studio units. For our purposes, a studio is sufficient. |

Not the greatest part of town. Nice art-deco theme not carried into units. Units all small, overpriced, and the roof leaked. Bad neighborhood. |

We arrived at about 10:30 on a Friday night, no parking available, paid or not. Had to go a few blocks away. The neighborhood isn't very nice, there are bars on the windows of the lower units. The roof in the hallway was leaking, and it looked like it wasn't the first time. There are few amenities at this resort: no in unit laundry, no hot tub, no pool, no parking. The closet is so small that you can't open it far enough for a full-sized suitcase to lay across the luggage rack. The luggage rack had to be folded to be put into or taken out of the closet. The vanity was very low. The bed was OK. |
