Hi Guys, We just got back from a weekend at Ocean Walk. We had reserved a 2BR penthouse. Let me start with rating the resort--on a scale of 1-10 the resort is a 9+, it is one of the nicest ones on Daytona beach. The friendliness of the staff an 8+, they tried there best to please. The reason I say this, is because, there seems to be a big problem with the communications between Trendwests (that's who they know) and Fairfield's reservations systems. When we checked in, they told us, that the unit that I had reserved was having \"air-conditioning problems\". I happened to see a lady coming out of the unit heading for the beach. I think they had already had this unit rented out,and didn't want to admit it. They did upgrade us to a 3BR unit. It was a very nice unit, equal to Worldmarks standards. But we only had two couples, so \"big deal 3BR's\" We really enjoyed the room though. I had also reserved a 1BR unit for a friend on a 48 hour last call, for sat.& sun. When he went to check in with his conformation number, we had gone out for the evening, they had no record of his reservation . And his Worldmark conformation number meant absolutely nothing to there system. He told me that they were very nice to him , but did not have a clue on how to handle this problem. After about 4 hour(4 HOURS), they gave him a 1BR lockout unit in the old tower. The next morning I went down and talked with the manager and he was very apologetic. I told him that I didn't understand why it took so long to straighten it out and it was very embarrassing to me. After I told him that Worldmark had a forum, and I would be doing a review on the resort when I got back. He agreeded to comp my friend a few drinks at the poolside bar and upgrade him to a nicer room that night. (I contribute this to the power of the FORUM). I also told him that I wanted to look at the different room, so that I could report back to the Worldmark owners, as to size and there location. THESE ARE THE FACTS: They have two towers, the south tower, I think he said, was built in the late 90's and is used only by Fairfield owners, exchanges and rentals. The north tower, was completed and opened two years ago. It has 25 floors. Trendwest recently purchased the 11th and 14th floors for Worldmark use only. The others are used by Fairfield. Fairfield had already reserved some of the rooms on our floors before the deal with Trendwest, so they (Trendwest) agreed to let Fairfield honor the reservations already made. The parking garage is about 10 stories high ,so our floors are above it. Both of our floors have the same floor plan. On each floor we have two 1BR units, they both overlook the garage and the city, nice but no view of the ocean. There are eight 2BR units, one corner room (ocean front) that is larger with its own private balcony, which is probably considered the 2BR Penthouse(?) There are two other smaller 2BR (ocean front) rooms, they share a balcony with a divider between them. (probably the 2BR deluxe) There are four 2BR units with limited ocean view. And one with no view of the ocean at all, but a really great view of the city and the west. Last but not least, there are four 3BR units (all ocean front). Looking at my floor plan, most of the 2BR units are as large or larger than the 3BR units. All units that I saw, looked in great shape and decorated nicely. They had fully equipped kitchens with a toaster, a blender and a can opener. In the living room they had a nice sofa and a couple of nice chairs,a TV, a VCR and a stereo but no DVD. The master bedroom had a King bed, jet tub, large shower, single sink vanity and potty room. The other bedrooms were smaller, but adequate. 2BR unit had two double beds and 3BR units had one bedroom with two double beds and one with a queen bed The second bath was large with a tub and shower. There are plenty of places to eat and a lot of different things to do within walking distance. Like I said earlier the resort is very nice and I am looking forward to going back (it's only about a 4 hour drive) Hopefully the two companies can work out there communication problems. This was a very embarrassing situation. I would recommend that if anyone is going down anytime soon, to make a phone call and be sure your reservations are OK. THE BEST SURPISE IS NO SURPRISE. If anyone has any other questions, please reply or PM me and I will try to help. God Bless and Happy Travels, Robin in Savannah, Ga. |

We had an incredible stay at the Ocean Shore WM. We had a 3 bedroom suite on the 14th floor with an Ocean view from both the living room and also the master bedroom. This was great!!! We enjoyed having beachfront property and full access to the great sandy shores. To start off with, I was really impressed with the very friendly staff at this resort. I was amazed that the rep that checked us in on Sunday afternoon could still remember my name plus also remember which unit we were staying in 2 days later, without having to look it up! I'm still wondering how she did that! My family all really enjoyed boogie boarding and playing in the ocean. We were very appreciative that there was a life guard on duty, as our youngest son (11 years old, but small for his age) got carried away by the waves from his older brothers and needed help getting back to shore. After that experience, we were able to trade in his boogie board for a 3-wheeler and the guys renting the beach equipment were very friendly and very fair. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed strolling the beach, soaking up the sun, picking up seashells and admiring the ocean! What an incredible creation! Even though the beach is kind of crowded, it doesn't really matter because it is so vast! As for the accomodations, they were very, very nice. We enjoyed cooking breakfast and dinner in the resort. The only problem we had, was that there wasn't any big pots or small fry pans in the kitchen, but that was easily remedied as we called housekeeping and they quickly sent up many pans to choose from. Our 3 night stay at Ocean Walk was quite relaxing after spending 5 busy days and 4 nights in Orlando. I would highly recommend that anybody visiting ANY of the many attractions in Orlando treat themselves to at least 2 nights at Ocean Walk AT THE END of their vacation so that they truly can relax before having to get back to the grind of very busy lives back at home! |

This resort has everything a family with kids would want. 3 outdoor swimming pools, 2 indoor pools, 2 hot tubs(one of which turned me quite red), a childrens pool and the lazy river. The lazy river wasn't heated like the other pools, but was still a lot of fun. The resort even has a nine hole mini-golf course indoors. This was great seeing that it rained almost the entire time we were there. All this and a great beach right out the back door. If it wasn't for the rain this would have been the best vacation my family ever had. |

Ok, so we just returned from a 7 day vacation and i have to say that i wish we had booked daytona after orlando because of the hotel. the staff are always friendly and very helpful. the concierge was willing to call and book events for us when we had trouble getting connected. the hotel is very nice and has indoor pools (the first two days we were there it was overcast and drizzling rain all day). the shops had everything from souvenoirs to swimwear. one thing i learned on this vacation, non one knows where the wal mart is...go to the publix! if you have a gps, find yourself a phonebook and get the address. one thing you have to do is walk up the ponce inlet lighthouse ( going up is fine, coming down is scary. great view at the top though. oh yeah, and don't wear a skirt :) ). the marine science center really was a waste of time we thought but it was something to do. not really impressed. if you really want good seafood-Bubba Gumps is the place to go and eat. we didn't go to the one at daytona, but we made it to the one in orlando and it was excellent food and service! (good prices for alot of food and great service) when you go to the beach make sure you take sunblock, sunglasses and watch out for the knats! they drive you crazy! but back to the hotel...it is very nice. while we were there there were alot of families around because of springbreak. even though, we never really had a problem with the halls being extremely noisy but the elevators were always crowded. the rooms were nice and very comfortable but my husband thinks that worldmark to move up to the plasma tvs. the rooms had plenty of space and privacy. the master had a jacuzzi tub (small for two people), a shower and separate sinks which was nice. the second room which was for my daughter (12 y/o) had two full size beds and again plenty of room. i have to say that if you are traveling with more than three people it would be ok to buy groceries for your room but if you have three or less the restaurants aren't bad. the room also had a small washer and dryer which was very convenient when you came in from the beach and had like 2-3 changes of clothes a day for everyone. the hotel provides all of the essentials and a quick call to the front desk got you whatever you didn't have in a few minutes max. you always saw housekeeping making sure things were clean and the upkeep of the grounds area was emmaculent! i know i have went through this review from one thing to another but i hope it helps and your family enjoys their vacation as much as we did. Pictures can be seen at www.myspace.com/tpatrece2 also. |

Pros:

The set up of the units is good. Nice master bedroom and bath. Good location. Most of the staff was good. Activity things for kids were fun. Direct access to the beach. Beach chairs and umbrellas for rent. |
|
|
Cons:
|
Pool lounges were always "reserved", so most of the time no access. Lazy river was cold. Unit was not stocked like a WM unit should be. We felt like the unit had been used "hard", since there were so many things missing. During high tide, there was hardly any beach exposed. |

This was a very busy resort. We were thrilled to have an ocean view unit, since my daughter-in-law had never seen the ocean. We were able to check in early. When we got there, the second bedroom, which had a big window right on the hallway, had no blind or curtain, so everybody could look right in. When we called the desk, someone came up to look. They said they had the blinds ordered, but would move us if we wanted. We had already unpacked a lot of our stuff and "unfortunately" we would NOT be able to leave our stuff in that unit until the other was ready, which meant moving everything back to the car!????? We said we would stay in the unit when they said they would cover the window for the night and go buy some blinds "tomorrow"(which never happened). They nailed a blanket to the window which stayed there the whole time. There were no towels in the second bath. We had three bath towels for 5 people. When I called to ask for more, the lady said they were out, and we would have to "share" towels or use hand towels. The next morning there were still no towels available. Later in the aft. when I called they sent up some old ones, but there were still no towels available. There were no chairs on the patio. We called and were brought two really crummy ones. The blender didn't work. Got it replaced. There were no salt and pepper shakers, no baking sheets or anything comparable , no glass mixing bowls, no tongs, no kitchen shears, no pot holders, no big cooking pot, and only 1 skillet. No TV remote in the master bedroom. There were no matress pads on the beds...the sheet was just put on over the matress. The unit was defintely not stocked like a normal WorldMark unit. We felt like there is such a turnover of guests in the resort and that maybe a lot of the guests are so hard on the units, that the units are not or could not be paid the attention they need. It's a nice resort, but needs some attention to the little things. I might try to post pictures later. |
