Pros:
  • Beach Location
  • Close to attractions
  • Some ground floor units have large grassy areas
Cons:
  • Units are smaller than typical WM 2 bedroom
  • Pool Temperature unpredictable
  • Lots of overcast/fog/mist

Review: Spent a week there in July, we had a ground level unit near the pool, which are single story buildings which was really nice. Most WM units are top and bottom though. This resort is also a hotel, so the units with the best view and closest to the beach are owned by the hotel, and the WM units are in the rear.

They were in the process of building a new kids play set. Our unit was pretty clean, but the kitchen and family room area were much smaller than normal. If you pull out the murphy bed, you'll have a tough time getting into the kitchen.

Because of how the town of Marina sits, apparently the sun doesn't seem to come out there. For 7 days we never saw it, however in Monterray, and Pacific Grove, the sun would break through the overcast producing nice days.

Pool temperature was good some days, poor on others, they claim that one heater was down, and that the repair folks were coming in a few days. Then the one heater eventually got the pool to normal temp, but then we tried again after the repair, and it was cold again, so it didn't make much sense.

Pros:    Super Clean, Excellent resort staff
Cons:   dining / living area poorly laid out
Review: We checked into Marina Dunes on 1/26/2008. We were in unit 213, a 2 BR twins.

The bedrooms size and locations were nice. The kitchen set-up was nice also. The dining/living area was strange, rather inconvenient. The unit sleeps six, but there is no way that you could ever seat 6 people comfortably at the dinner table. There just isn't enough space. If it were up to us, we would remove the murphy bed and leave it as a 2 BR that sleeps 4.

In order to even use the murphy bed, we not only had to move the dining table and chairs, but also had to move a living room chair out of the way. Thankfully, we didn't spend a lot of time in the unit. Rich and I took a walk on the beach each day.

We went to Monterey a couple of times. The first time, we had lunch at Bubba Gumps. It's a pretty unique seafood place on Cannery Row, reminders of the movie Forrest Gump are everywhere. We also went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. What a great place! I would highly recommend it. We took quite a few pictures there. I'll post them soon. Cool

The resort staff was great. From housekeeping to maintenance to front desk. The unit was spotless when we arrived. We called the desk because the coffee maker was leaking. A maintenance guy was at our door in less than 5 minutes! He was unable to fix it, so brought us a brand new coffee maker. From phone call to new coffee maker in less than 10 minutes. That's fast!
