Pros:    This is also a resort that we would return to. The grounds are nicely kept and the whole area is very clean. They were working on the game room which is in the same building as the registration office. The rooms were very clean. Ours was right on the water and at low tide you could walk on it even though it was narrow and lots of pebbles. Both the master bdrm and the dining area had decks with sldding doors leading onto the deck. The master bdrm was on the lower level. There are 3 levels in our 2bdrm unit. The living room, dining area and kichen are on the main level and the second bdrm is on the top level with a loft that had a stuffed chair and table and lamp.
Cons:   Aside from being 4 miles from the closest town (Sequim), I would say that is the only negative point.
Review: The staff gave us tips on what was interesting to see. Hurricane Ridge is a must when the weather is clear. There are many things to see on the whole peninsula has many sites to see. Sequim has many lavender farms. I have bought 2 plants each time we have been there. Port Angeles has many restored homes may of them mansions in there hey days. I don't think that you would be disappointed with this resort.

Pros:    Great location for exploring Hurricane Ridge or stop off to or from Victoria. Very roomy units. Being somewhat secluded
Cons:   No policing of adult swim. Being somewhat secluded
Review: Our 2 bedroom plus unit was a very spacious unit. The floorplan is rather odd, but well laid out. Our unit (43) entered on the 2nd level. To the right of the door was the laundryroom with full size washer and dryer. Down a short flight of steps led to the master bedroom suite---complete with fireplace, king size bed, large jacuzzi tub, and separate bathroom with shower. There was also a deck off the master bedroom. Up a flight of stairs from the entrance was the livingroom (with 2 sofas)/diningroom/kitchen area. It, too, had a deck off the diningroom. Up a flight of stairs from the livingroom was a landing with another bathroom with tub and shower combo. Up the last set of stairs was a landing with another sleeper sofa (thus making it a "plus" unit with an occupancy of 8 instead of 6). Just off the landing was the 2nd bedroom. Our unit had 2 twin beds in it, I believe some of them have 1 queen bed.

The unit was very well lit and very roomy. ONly complaint with our room was that we had a couple birds built a nest in the eeves of the livingroom and the baby birds chirped very loudly all day long.

There was another set of buildings between us and the water, but our building was high enough to have a nice view.

Our biggest complaint was the lack of adult swim time. We looked forward to the hour of peace and quiet, but there were more kids than adults there. The pool is indoors and got very noisy. I don't hate kids, just enjoy a little peace and quiet on occassion.

We had a beautiful day to explore Hurricane Ridge (being middle of July I expected that). Although the day we arrived was totally overcast and the day after we went to Hurricane Ridge was overcast also.

We drove about 15 minutes into Port Townsend to go to the grocery store.

WE also enjoyed driving around the lavendar farms that were in full bloom at that time.

All in all, I would go there again. Probably would try to tie it in with a trip to Victoria.

Pros:    This was a beautiful resort, i loved the following things
  • Quiet and close to water
  • Close to Port Townsend for day trips
  • 20 minute ferry ride to Seattle for day trips or football games
  • Rooms are on separate floors, for increased privacy
  • Living room, kitchen & dining room separated from bedrooms
  • Fantastic jacuzzi tub in main bedroom
We have thoroghly enjoyed our visits here and try to get into it as often as possible
Cons:
  • No separation of jacuzzi tub and bedroom
  • hard location to find
  • terrible late check in
  • hard to book into
Review: The Discovery bay condos are one of the best I have been to. I do have to admit they are better for taking a weekend away from the kids than they are for taking the kids to.
While I loved the sights and sounds of the bay, the children were bored. We fixed this by quick trips into Seattle and Port Townsend, but I have been there twice without the children and it was very restful.
Crabbing on the bay, nice dinners, and a quiet area makes this an absolutely heavenly trip.
Must do's
  1. A trip to the old Fort at Port Townsend (go early in the day and season)
  2. A walk down the streets of Port Townsend
  3. A quick trip on the ferry to Seattle and land within walking distance to the Mariners or Seahawks home field
  4. A late night walk down to the water, wear a jacket
  5. fast trip to Victoria BC on the ferry
  6. quick game of tennis on the resort grounds

This is definately one of the best places I have stayed at. The grounds have a personal dock, a tennis court, and plenty of areas to walk around.
The weather in the fall is a bit chilly, so bring a coat and an umbrella is nice also.
In the spring, it is warmer rain, but the weather all in all was wonderful.
Definately a must visit on your list.

Review: There is lots of info available of the resort itself, so I’ll focus on the activities. This is a great base for hiking in the Olympic mountains. I was able to snag 2 stand alone Sat in July and took a group of friends over. The NE corner of the Olympics is in a rain shadow and the trails tend to melt out earlier than others in the area. Here are some suggestions; for details see Olympic Mtn Trail Guide by Robert Wood or check trip reports online from www.wta.org:
For experienced hikers:
Early July is flower season at Buckhorn Pass (14 miles, 3000’ of gain) which is one of my favorites. There will still me some snow up on the high ridge between Buckhorn and Marmot pass, but the views are great.
Mt Townsend, a very popular hike to high views into the Olympics (8 mi, 3000’ of gain).
For an easier option:
Tubal Cain is an old mine site with a nice meadow along the creek with a good show of rhododendrens in bloom in late June and early July. About 7 miles round trip and 1000’ gain.
The first 3 miles of the Upper Dungeness River trail is a nice hike along the river to Camp Handy; a large meadow at the river accessible by mid-May. There is one river crossing that needs to be checked; the bridge was broken last year and was a bit of an adventure getting across so check with the Ranger before heading up.
The lower Greywolf River is a nice winter hike through a pretty old rain forest like area.
Mt. Walker is just off of Hwy 101 near Quilcene and has a steep but fairly short trail to the top. You can also drive to the top in the summer, so this is a nice hike in the winter; up the trail and down the road is one option. Great views to Mt. Constance and the Olympics from the top.

Review: Just have to say how our kids love this resort! They are 8 and 10 years old. When the weather is good they enjoy the tennis courts, walking on the beach and the docks and they fish for hours catching the massive minnows that congregate around the docks, just bring small poles, small hooks, bait and a bucket. All of the fish are released after they brag on how many they caught! As cautious parents we have them wear life vests while on the docks fishing. (We bring a chair and a book!) If the tide is right you can actually catch crab while the water is heading out, we have had crab for dinner several times.

When the weather is poor they haunt the game room playing ping pong and video games. When bored with that the swimming pool is there for them along with a decent selection of board games and movies available at the office.

Our kids always pick Discovery Bay as their first choice when asked where they want to go. They each got to pick their favorite resort to visit for their upcoming birthdays so we are heading to Discovery Bay in November '06 and in January '07!

Like all else in life, different strokes for different folks, so I can't see saying this isn't a resort to take kids to, just the opposite for our family.

Review: We just spent one night on bonus time to check out the place in preparation for a big family get-together we're planning here later in the year (then we went on up to Deer Harbor -- nice). We stayed in the 2-BEDROOM DELUXE and it is HUGE. Very nice living area, big kitchen with lots of cupboard space, huge master bedroom, large second bedroom and the murphy bed has its own space that won't interfere with things in the dining room or living room. It will be the perfect space for the family to all gather while we are there.

We also have reserved some 2-bedroom units, so I wanted to get a quick peak at those. The staff very graciously arranged for that. The 2-BEDROOM units seemed very small -- especially after seeing the deluxe. I'm glad we reserved one deluxe unit so the family can gather there to visit. The 2-bedroom units will be lucky to hold the 6 people they're designed for. They are the only units that are guaranteed to be right on the water (a few of the 2 bedroom plus also are), so they have their compensations. It looked like when the hide-a-bed is open, there will be NO room in the living room at all. The master bedroom does have a large tub in the room, but the bed takes up most of the rest of the space. The kitchen is small. They are nice and cozy. I think I'd love them for time by ourselves right on the water, but not so much for a family of 6.

The game room has been moved towards the top level of the resort -- up near the sales office area, the swimming pool and the tennis courts. There is wi-fi access in the lobby area -- you can sit on one of the couches to work. There is also a shared computer there.

I'm looking forward to our return and time to spend exploring the area -- especially the National Forest/ National Park.

Update May 2008 - We've returned to Discovery Bay several times. When in the 2-bedroom unit with 5 people, we rearranged the furniture, taking the couch out of the "living room" and putting it with it's back to the kitchen bar. This allowed us to move the dining table right up next to the wall with the sliding glass door so we could have the hide-a-bed out and still be sitting in the living room. It wasn't the best, but for livability with 5 people, it was better than it had been. The wi-fi access in the lobby has been removed since you can now pay for it! At the time we were there last (Dec 2007) the wi-fi system wasn't working right and access to it in the rooms was spotty at best. I assume that issue has been resolved by now?
