OK, you guys got me. I have succumbed to the peer pressure I am going to submit my name as a candidate for the WorldMark Board of Directors.
Before anyone gets worried about me going against Philip and splitting the vote --- NOT A CHANCE. I have talked this out with Philip at great length. As he posted in the BOD nomination thread, he is unable to run this year.
This is the candidate statement that I will be submitting to the Board:
I love WorldMark! It has changed my life … over 265 nights reserved in seven years! Yet I am alarmed by recent trends:
.....-More credits required for inferior construction & mediocre locations
.....-Record fee increases with declining customer service
.....-Developer’s questionable use of resorts - “Party Weekends”, public rentals
.....-Election manipulation and process irregularities
.....-Restricted access to information by and between owners
.....-Significant errors in financial and Vacation Credit accounting
.....-Existing owners subjected to high-pressure sales
Why isn’t our Board protecting owners? Four of our five directors have a conflict of interest: close professional ties to Wyndham (our Developer/Manager). Each of these problems benefits Wyndham AT OUR EXPENSE. We MUST elect an independent Board without conflicting allegiences.
Why elect me to that Board? I am respected among owners. I have an established working relationship with the Board. I will work to achieve an independent Board without destroying the important business relationship between Developer and Club. I recognize and respect Wyndham’s right to make a profit – but NOT at owners’ expense. Though passionate about WorldMark, I can separate emotional considerations and identify the legal, organizational and economic basis of issues, then rationally discuss issues with people on both sides and help each to see the other’s viewpoint.
While my goal to achieve an independent Board is clear and unchangeable, I will work through cooperation and mutual respect - not combat.
My specific qualifications include:
.....-Twenty years in the commercial real estate industry:
..........Property management for apartment, office, retail, and condominium developments.
..........Management of multi-million dollar construction loans.
..........Financial records and reporting to property owners.
..........Preparation and enforcement of Bylaws and Declarations for commercial condominium developments.
.....-Chosen by our Board for the WorldMark Owner Advisory Committee.
.....-Heavily involved in the development and operation of www.wmowners.com, a “By Owners, For Owners”
........advocacy group dedicated to owner understanding and enjoyment of WorldMark.
I am supported by Philip Abdouch, Jim Pappas, Steve Kranker, and other past independent candidates.

Well that would certainly be my hope! Philip has said that he fully supports me as a candidate. But he has also pledged to vote the proxies for the independent candidate that he feels has the best chance to get elected ... I would not ask him to break that pledge. So I have to do everything in my power to be that most-electable independent candidate and EARN those proxies he holds in trust! |

Marci, with Philip not running I'm sure many are disappointed as was I. However, seeing you take up the task makes me fee much better. You will be an awesome director, a true representative of the OWNERS!
My message is: It's best to assign proxies to Philip, but if people feel that they just have to vote for somebody, Marci Tribe is that person.
Best of luck Marci. |

Woo Hoo! Assign your proxies to Philip Abdouch and help elect MARCI FOR WORLDMARK!
Proxies that you have previously assigned will be effective for 3 years. If you have purchased a new account since the last election, you will need to assign those proxies to Philip. |

That is awesome Marci! Thank you for being willing to take on this task. Thank you for coordinating with the previous candidates, since I believe that any division of Owner efforts to elect an independent candidate will fail without a unified effort for a single candidate.
You have my support. Good luck! |

Marci-
Thank you for making the leap! Why don't you begin your own proxy campaign? You may collect many more than Philip and increase your odds.

Thanks for running for BOD Marci. You have my vote. That being said, as we rally to get an independent elected to the BOD, having Philip collecting proxies but not knowing who they will go to may deter assignment of said proxies. It also will give the appearance that there is not consensus around one candidate. I do like the proxy assignment method as it gives Philip visibility of the number of proxies assigned and voted for a particular candidate. I understand why the last minute decision is made. I am just pointing out that this approach makes it more difficult to have a very focused effort directed to the support of one candidate very early on.
I also want to chime in and thank those Owners that have dedicated so much of their time and effort toward the betterment of the Worldmark Experience. This includes those that manage this website and "chat room" , those that have done so much research and sharing of insights, those that have interfaced with the management company of the day, etc. I will undoubtedly forget somebody if I try to list names. We all know who they are. Sincerely - thank you! |

It is a tough decision, and one that was not taken lightly. I see your point about the appearance of a split effort; however, there was also reluctance in the past to the idea of a candidate collecting his own proxies.
Of course if an owner wants to assign proxies to me, I will be honored to accept them and vote them on behalf of that owner. But Philip has a great deal of momentum with his proxy drive, and I don't want to give any impression that I am fighting against or competing with his efforts. I truly see it as two separate but complimentary endeavors. The proxy drive is to unify our voice behind the most qualified and electable independent candidate, whoever that may be. Of course I hope that I will be the one to earn that honor, but the day will come when there will be a different candidate to support (hopefully because I will be already on the Board ). Philip's proxy drive, with the support of WMO as posted by ModSquad late last night or early this morning, must be bigger than any one candidate.
My preference would be for everyone who supports me as a candidate to do so by signing over his/her 3-year proxy to Philip Abdouch. We will get a 2008 proxy form posted ASAP. But we know from past elections that not everyone wants to assign a proxy -- there are those who prefer to vote their own ballot, and there are those who simply don't understand the message or the proxy form. Therefore the effort is two-pronged; sign your proxy to Philip or vote for Marci. Together, we WILL get an independent Board of Directors!!! |
