We are thinking about going to Angels Camp in the begining of July for a family reunion. Anyone know how the road...I think hwy 4 to I-5 is? Worried it might be slow and curvy road like Bass lake to Yosemite is. My kids get car sick on those kind of roads. I think the family reunion is going to be in Manteca...so wondering how the commute would be.
Also room types. We would have to get a 2 bedroom. Is the 2 bedroom Queen or twin better to book? Or is it all about the same?
thanks for the help! |

I've only been there once, but I do not remember winding roads from the Bay Area to Angels Camp. I do remember winding roads from Angels Camp to Yosemite. If I remember correctly, Angels Camp 2BRs are 2 levels, one bedroom downstairs and one upstairs. I don't think a queen or twin will get you a better location, so it is preference of bed you wish. |

| That's Fred's territory...but I don't think the road from Angel's Camp to Manteca is very curvy. The 2 2 bedroom units I booked last year were both twins in the second bedroom, master suite was up stairs, above the patio that had the barbeque. |

I also get carsick so understand the situation. The roads to Angels Camp are not as windy as the road from Bass Lake to Yosemite, but they are windy. Once you get into the foothills, it's hard to avoid, but they aren't bad; i.e. not as sharp of curves. The portion of Hwy 4 east of Stockton is pretty straight as it goes through the farm fields so you would only need to worry about the last bit through the hills; maybe half an hour or less.
When I was a kid, the best anti-carsick strategy was to sing. For some reason, it kept us from getting sick or maybe just from thinking about it.
I agree with Atom that the location of some units isn't an issue at Angels Camp. There isn't a view in one area over another. I've been in 1,2 and 3-BR units and they all seem to be pretty similar. The 2 BR have an upstairs master with the 2nd BR down.

| If I remember, the 2BR queens have the upstairs/downstairs since they're on the second floor, but the 2BR twins are one floor only since they're on the first floor. |

The road:
4 is nice, not curvy, plenty wide, from Stockton to Copperopolous (sp)
5-8 mile stretch from Copperopolous to Angels Camp is narrow and a bit curvy, but that stretch is pretty short. If you start to feel some discomfort, you don't have another hour to drive. By the time you feel it, you're there.
Taking 12 (a bit further north) then 49 south is straighter, but I don't think it is worth it unless you're coming from the North. Again, the curvy stretch on 4 is pretty short.
Rooms: Larger than most WM resorts. Most 2 bedroom units are 2-story. Huge Master with bath upstairs, one-bedroom downstairs (plus large living/dining room plus kitchen. Some 2-bedroom units are one story (end units on the bottom floor). |

The only time we ever took the road from Bass Lake to Yosemite I got so sick I had to throw up twice, and I was in the front seat. You're right, that one is a killer! : ) |

All two bedroom units I've been in (twin as well as queen) have been two story.

Thanks...it makes me feel better knowing that the road shouldn't be too bad. Going over to Windsor we hit some curvy roads too. Can't remember which hwy we took from I-5.
The rooms sound alot like wolf creek, Utah with the master being upstairs and full bath. I really liked wolf creek.
So any guess on the average time from the resort to I-5? |

The middles of the buildings: One-bedroom unit on bottom. Above that is a two-story two bedroom unit. Bottom floor has same floor plan as one-bedroom unit below, upstairs is Master bedroom and bath.
At the ends of many buildings, the 'extra' space off to the side is the second bedroom of a one-story two-bedroom unit. These second bedrooms are much smaller than the upstairs master in the 2-story 2-bedroom units.
Three bedroom units are end units. Just like the 2-story 2-bedroom units, but with an extra bedroom on the end of the building. |
