Ted and I are thinking of going to AZ sometime soon. Anyone been to Nogales from Rancho Vistoso? Is it worth the trip, or a place to avoid ??
Thanks IA |

We go to Rancho Vistoso a lot, and we've never been to Nogales. (It was nicknamed "No-go" when I was growing up in Arizona). With all the shootings going on in the border towns, I vote for "a place to avoid."
We're going to Rancho Vistoso this Monday to go to the Tucson Gem & Mineral show just because we haven't ever been. |

I haven't been to Nogales but the small town of Tubac, AZ is a nice artists community. It's maybe 10 miles north of the border and is full of artist galleries.

Tumacacori National Historical Park is another interesting place to visit, and it is near Tubac. When you're finished at Tumacacori NHP, be sure to go to the Santa Cruz Chili & Spice Company in Tumacacori to fill up your spice cabinet at home. |

The only reason to go to Nogales, Mexico is to drink if you are between 18-20 (drinking age 1 , or to say you have done it. As far as border towns go, Nogales is not bad, but it's still a border town. Can be fun to barter and buy some trinkets, but I wouldn't recommend it. Lived in Tucson 17 years and really didn't go at all. If you do go, park on the US side and walk over the border.
Plenty of great things to see South of Tucson on the way to Nogales. The Titan Missle Museum and the Pecan Store (large pecan grove/factory storefront) are both in Green Valley, and Tubac is nice. There are also some good wineries in the Sonoita area. If you head south and east, Tombstone is always worth the trip, and if you can get into Kartchner Caverns, it's worth it. |

Thanks guys -- think we've nixed Nogales -- they might kidnap me and I know for a fact Ted wouldn't pay the ransom... AND we don't need any more Mexican blankets, nodding dogs etc.
Appreciate comments on the things that are good to see! Thanks,

| Just enter "nogales murders" into a Google search box and start reading. That should convince you not to go there. |

| Another thing you can expect as you explore So. Ariz. near the border is the series of Border Patrol checkpoints on most of the roads coming north from the border. The US Government has reserved the right to inspect vehicles and person within some distance (100 miles?) of the border. |

I was wondering about that. In Southern California, they have a checkpoint above San Diego from Mexico. |

We just returned from Rancho Vistoso. We went to Tubac for their 51st Annual Arts & Crafts Show, and we had to go through a Border Patrol checkpoint at mile marker 43 on I-19. |

We were at RV a couple of years ago and drove to Nogales. It was about a hour and 1/2 drive. You pay for parking on the US side ( $4.00 for the day, then) and walk across. We found it interesting and, yes, you meet the "retirees" from up the road doing their day long happy hour, but we found some items we liked at a few shops and enjoyed the atmoshere. We weren't hassled by any body, unlike Acapulco. We just didn't get off the "beaten track". Crossing back to the US was also easy. The only frustrating delay was about 20 miles from the border we found about a mile long line-up for an "illegal" check. Took less time than "Xing" at Douglas on a summer weekend, though. We would go back again.
We liked RV, especially during Spring Training. The Colorado Rockies are there and from our experience you don't have to fight the crowds as in Scottsdale for a pre-season ball game |

| We stayed at RV a few years ago and took our 4 kids. We drove down to Nogales and walked crossed the border for the day. It was an interesting and enjoyable trip, but I'm not so sure I'd do it now with all the problems they've been having down there. |

Can anyone tell me what are the Worldmark rules for cleaning hot tubs in general and the rules for them at Vistoso?
When we asked about the cleaning they said that they only clean between rentals of the penthouse and they looked at our hot tub and said they had never seen things like that in the hot tub. Then they drained it into the open wild space behind the condo. When you look over the side where they dumped the water you can see where the plants are dead and dying. We think this is not right and something should be done differently so that the plants are not killed. |
