I wanting to plan a trip for just my wife for I for Mid Oct-early Nov. I'm wanting somewhere with nice weather, not real expensive and within 2-3 hour flight or so from Dallas. This is primarily for a get-a-way to take it easy and just relax with maybe a little light touristy stuff. An exchange is fine. We'll book a week but probably only use 5-6 days. Everything is pretty flexible right now.

I was wondering what places you guys really enjoy that might fit.

thanks,
Bill

Southern California would be great. Try to see if you can exchange into any of the resorts in the following list:
  • Four Seasons Aviara (airport SAN)
  • Marriott Newport Coast (airport SNA, LGB)
  • Villa L'Auberge (airport SNA, LGB)
  • Westin Mission Hills (airport PSP)
  • WM Indio, or ony of the Marriott resorts in Palm Springs (airport PSP)
  • Lawrence Welk Villas (airport SAN)
You two can choose to stay at the resort most of the time or decide to check out the communities near by. There are plenty of restaurant options too.

Hi

WM St George is nice. I assume you would fly into Las Vegas and drive to Utah.

Very Happy

Cabo

Exchange into Mexico

As strange as it may sound, mid October can be nice in San Francisco. "Indian Summer" in San Francisco is typically September to the end of October http://www.sanfrancisco.com/weather/ The hottest days of the year can be in September. It is relatively cold in San Francisco during June-August.

I'd vote for Cabo. Great airfares at that time of year with 65-85 degree weather and some easy exchanges into great locations. JMO

Marriott's Newport Coast has Oct-Nov availability right now. A green studio (4000 credits) can see them.

What's a green studio?

If you looking for somewhere warmer or as warm, I personal like the Florida Keys. Also the Destin/Panama Beach area of the Florida panhandle, or one of the islands on the gulf side of Florida - Captiva, Sanibel, or Marco Island.

I would also consider Cancun. There you have the option of visiting some of the historical Mayan sites, and there are some gorgeous resorts available via a exchange.

Where WM calls them red, white and blue, II calls them red, yellow and green. A green studio is a blue studio. When you tell WM to deposit a "blue" studio, it's actually a green studio.

(II recently purged all references to seasons from its resort directory. I have posted in the Vacation Exchange forum that the Exchange department told me that they were in talks with II on the subject.)

Or if you want something really different!!

Trade into DVC on RCI and add on the Disney Dining plan.

October is the Epcot food and wine festival. AWESOMENESS

Snack credits count towards the 'tasting' samples at the food booths.

I'll second the idea of NCV: we just returned from a stay in a 2 BR there that I got with a blue studio. They really make you feel pampered. There are swimming pools, tennis courts, golf etc and a shuttle bus that will take you to Laguna, down to the beach (a 5 min walk) or to the mall on a regular schedule. They will also take you elsewhere by advance arrangements like to a restaurant out on Newport or Balboa piers. There are activities each day as well, but we didn't participate in any. We had a fabulous view out over the ocean from a nice balcony and an excellent soaking tub and walkin shower. If you want to go someplace to relax, this is an excellent spot. John Wayne airport is about 10 min away so it's pretty convenient. For 4000 credits (a blue studio deposit), exchange fee + HK, it's a really good bargain.

Florida. Worldmark has resorts in Orlando and Daytona, but if you're looking for beach weather, go further south. I see 2 new affiliates on the Florida map - Wyndham Palm-Aire and Wyndham Sea Gardens in Pompano Beach. Those might be worth considering. Also, exchanges into Florida are fairly easy in the fall. But keep in mind that October and November are hurricane season. Hurricanes are more likely in October than November.
If you're looking for golf weather rather than beach weather, then anywhere in Florida should suit you.

thanks guys,

I was liking the sound of Florida Keys since I wanted it to be mild to warm, but as I think about it a little more, I don't want a long rental car drive. In fact, shorter the better,

NCV?...is that the Marriot Newport Coast? If so, sounds interesting.

My kids would not "stand" for the Disney thing...althoug I would like to try Epcot sans kiddos.

thanks for the help.

Yes. Newport Coast Villas. Weeks are available for Oct. I can also see weeks available in November with my Marriott, so you could probably Request First and get a couple weeks back to back.

I agree with the cabo idea. Also the Daytona resort is top notch with lots to do but the weather will be a risk. The weather in Aruba this last Oct for me was perfect and very little risk of hurricanes down there. Also there is minimal driving required on an island that size
