I am at Coral Baja this week. I went with Avis because they have no deductible to mess with. May be more expensive but still cheaper than hiring a Mexican lawyer and cooling my heels in a Mexican jail Shocked
By the way: the weather is nice and the furniture is comfortable enough. If you spend too much time finding the faults of the resort, you will not enjoy the beauty of it all. Don't worry, be happy! Very Happy

Yeah, it is a great resort. I love hanging by the pool. Enjoy that beautiful sunshine. I've been constantly grumpy since arriving home to this rain. Sad

By the way, thanks Harvrbt. I am going to drive my Avis car into San Jose del Cabo and find some of those cactus tacos you recommended. The ribs up at Sardinas, just outside the resort are so very, very nice. Laughing

I am envious!! We loved that place!! Have a funtastic time!!

For us, it has always been less expensive to rent for a week before hand than to rent two or three days there, especially when you figure in shuttle costs as a part of the cost.

We were hit by a bus when in Puerto Vallarta the last time we were there, and the paint was scraped; we were driving an Avis car and used Mastercard's coverage. We took pictures of the damage, went to the police department to fill out an accident claim, and were all set to turn in the claim. Avis was very obliging and gave us all the documentation we would need to turn the claim in; they said we need not have bothered with the police department. Then we asked Avis what the repair cost would be and they charged us $100.00. We split it with the other couple and didn't bother turning it in to Mastercard, so I don't know how it would have turned out if we had turned it in to them. For $50.00, it wasn't worth bothering with it. Had it been more, we would have gone through the process.

As to having someone deal with people in a foreign country, I've always been comfortable with the thought of Mastercard or Visa handling it for me; I suspect they are more adept than I would be.

Ahhh, just got home from Cabo. Love that resort. I will have to rethink using Avis. For 10 days (tiny car) with full coverage cost me $956.96. Seems a bit much. Brick wall I see there is a Dollar car rental. I will try that next time. I hear about people whose credit card covers all their insurance needs. How does that work if you have an actual accident? It seems like such a scam. But there does not seem to be a choice. Any amount is better than a Mexican jail. Shoulder shrug

We let our Visa or Mastercard provide the insurance on the vehicle. We were scraped by a bus in Puerto Vallarta, spent a day at the police station filling out the proper forms, took pictures to send to the credit card company, etc. Then we took the car to Avis and asked how much they would charge us; they said $100.00. We split the cost with the other couple and didn't bother to turn it in.....so I don't know how it would have turned out had we turned it in. I do know that the credit card company's insurance is primary in Mexico so it isn't turned in to your personal insurance company, though they do ask for that information. When we got home, I contacted the insurance company to see how much of a problem we would have collecting; it didn't appear to be all that much, but we didn't bother with it. Obviously, had it been more, we would have done it. They said we needed the damage report from the rental car company (which we had), a report from the police (which we had) and pictures if we had them (we did). It didn't look like there was much more than that required.

Ouch! yeah that is a bit pricey. We got a midsized VW that would comfortably fit 5 for around $200 before taxes ($229 I think was the total?). It pays to shop around that's for sure. Very Happy

Sorry but you got ripped off. We have never paid that much!! We have rented a 12 passenger van the past two years in Cancun and for 9 days it was like $800!! In Cabo we usually use Thrifty, about $300 for a small 4 door compact.

So, the beds are short but comfy. The bathroom in the 1br opens to the room which makes that area very congested. The living room furniture isn't comfy for a long sitdown. No DVD player in bedroom means watching a DVD in living room only (on said uncomfy couches). The reason DVD watching is neccasary is that the TV channels suck. Finally, sugar ants (not a problem for us as we didn't spill much but the inlaws are really messy. Laughing ). For a more possitive review read my entire muse in the resort section. Mr. Green

Dennis,
I couldn't find your review...do you have link?

Oh..never mind...I found it. I just didn't look far enough.

Fred,
I'm at Coral Baja now... is that the name of the restaurant? "Cactus Tacos"? We want to try them.

Just arrived yesterday, so we're getting our eating itinerary organized.

More on rental cars.

I finally booked with Thrifty on line before leaving home. I have a "full size" VW Jetta for $50 per day including insurance. Thrifty came to the Coral Baja to pick me up and will drop me back here after I turn it in. The Thrifty office is about 1/2k past Mega on same side of the street across from Scotia Bank.

I am using the VISA damage waiver thing....they seemed to be familiar with it and how it works. So I just have the Mexican liability which is $13 per day....included in above price.

My favorite place to eat in san jose del cabo was Tequilas.
We would just take the bus up there or walk. It's about 2 miles
Kathleen

..or give us a couple of "good eats" suggestions...you know... kind of like those that you'd find in downtown Buckley, Black Diamond, or Carbonado ROFL![/quote]

The food in Cabo was much better! Mr. Green

Coyotes in downtown Cabo was very good with smaller portions, I don't remember the names of the other places that were good. Embarassed Embarassed

Yep Cactus Tacos. It is a big orange building. When you drive through downtown and at the end you have to turn and go up the hill, it is on your right.
