Dennis and Marcy:
 |
We live in Buckley, a rural part of western Washington, at the base of Mt. Rainier. We have 4 great kids (Marcy deserves all the credit); Tyler (16) is the serious one, Jacob (14) is all about having fun, Mackenzie (10) is 100% girl, and Hunter (9) will do anything for sweets. Marcy and I are complete opposites. So watching our kids grow up with a little bit of both of us in their personalities has been a real joy. I work in the construction business and Marcy has an accounting degree with which she keeps us afloat and happy on my modest income. I am hoping to bring her to a GOO sometime and meet all those rowdy's on this forum. Due to financial investments and kids still in school we haven't used our WM points to their fullest yet, but we have plans. The resorts in the SW look very enticing to a couple of rain soaked north westerners. Especially since Marcy loves to hike, bike, swim, etc. Most of our vacations involve taking the kids to one of their Grandma's houses. Marcy's mother, until recently, lived on the Oregon coast in Yachats (Yaw-hots). It was beautiful; a large prow cedar home on the rocky shore of Yachats ocean drive (think Depoe Bay). The kids loved the nearby sandy beach and jumping the waves. My mom lives on Lake Roosevelt in Eastern Washington, near a tiny town called Daisy. Forget Disneyland, Sea World, etc. this is my kids favorite place in the whole world. My kids are lucky to have such wonderful places to go to see terriffic grandmas. I look forward to meeting all my friends on this wonderful WM owner’s website someday and try not to have the same reaction that most people have when meeting Marcy and me, “what is she doing with that guy”?
FEATURED OWNERS QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
How long have you been a member of WorldMark?
Since Sept. 2003, but TW had been working on me for a couple of years.
What is your favorite WorldMark resort? What do you like about it?
I took a poll of the family and they agreed on Ocean Walk (Daytona). Mostly because of all the things there are to do at this resort, its location, room size and family friendly atmosphere. We also like Seaside for some of the same reasons, but Daytona just had more of it.
What things do you like to do when visiting this resort?
Lazy river, swimming, beach, putt-putt golf, sightseeing, etc.
Tell us about the people you travel with - are they family? friends? co-workers? If you have children, what are their travel preferences?
I have a beautiful wife (1), kids (4). Three boys and one girl. Ages 16, 14, 10(girl), and 9. Most trips are to visit grandmothers or to a theme park. The wife and I occasionally vacation w/out them either by ourselves (overnighters) or with another couple (Hawaii 3x).
What is your most exciting vacation memory?
Our best memories are mostly w/out the kids (surprise, surprise). In Hawaii we enjoyed seeing an active volcano, sea kayaking, driving the backloads, biking down the mountain and snorkeling (my favorite). We also enjoyed biking around Park City together last June.
Have you ever had some kind of "vacation disaster" threaten to ruin your trip? Tell us your story!
Not really, just give me some time after getting off the plane from a long flight before you drive me around an entire island in the pouring rain when the sun is shining at our resort!
What activities do you and your family enjoy besides vacationing? (i.e. camping, walking, painting, etc)
I asked the kids and they came up with; water sports, bike rides and eating. Typical kids.
Do you have a hobby? What is it and what makes it special to you?
This 4M is my hobby and it is all the wonderful people here that make it so special.
Other than a WorldMark destination, what is your favorite place to visit for rest and relaxation?
Waikaloa, Big Island, Hawaii. It is beautiful and never rains.
If you could choose to live anywhere in the world, where would that be and why?
See above answer. The rain thing is important for someone from the Pacific Northwest. Now, if they could just adjust their real estate prices to fit my budget.
How did you choose to become a WorldMark owner? Or, why did you choose WorldMark over other timeshare companies?
We always enjoyed the t/s units that we stayed at in the past, so when TW called and offered us a trip we went. We really enjoyed our stay and the quality of the resort (Kihei), but my wife is very frugal and it took TW more time and another get away (Seaside) to convince her.
What do you enjoy most about being a WorldMark owner?
We really weren't interested in a fixed week resort, so WM made a lot more sense to us with their flexibility and number of resorts. The adventure of planning where to go next is a big plus for us.
What do you like best about this WMO website community you have helped create?
The people are what make this site so unique and rewarding. Yes, all the features and ease of use are enjoyable, but without so many nice posters it wouldn't be the same.
What suggestions do you have to enhance it?
The recent changes to the opening page are a good start. First impressions are important, so maybe more pictures of our resorts and activities might pique their curiosity to investigate more. Also a site-related tech support thread might be a good addition as I would like to learn how to improve my posting skills. We could also expand the review section to include non-WM resorts.
Do you have ideas for contests and giveaways that we could possibly incorporate in the future?
The forum could have monthly voting of members for "helpful poster", "Newbie of the Month", "funniest post", etc. As for giveaways, a drawing for one of Lynn's "throw away days" would work for resort reviews or other addition to the 4M.
