Ken and Cheryl:
Cheryl and I live south of Sandy, Oregon in a
beautiful country setting. Cheryl is an RN
working in labor and delivery and I am a Nurse
Anesthetist. I am 47 plus years of age and Cheryl
is...... thought you had me there huh!! We have a
son 27 and daughter-in-law with two grand kids ages 2
& 4. They are so adorable. We love spending time
with our children and grandchildren. They live about
4 hours north of us, so we never seem to get enough
time with them. Worldmark allows us to encourage more
get-togethers on weekends with them, both in Oregon and
Washington. Thank you Worldmark.
FEATURED OWNERS QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
How long have you been a member of WorldMark?
Where have you visited?
Cheryl and I became members the end of January 2003.
So, almost 2.5 years now.
We have been to the following resorts: Depoe Bay x4,
Schooner Landing x2, Gleneden x3, Seaside x11, Klamath
Falls x2, Eagle Crest x2, Eagle Ridge, Long beach,
Discovery Bay x2, Birch Bay, Ocean Shores x2,
Leavenworth x2, Vancouver, Victoria x2, Orlando, Coral
Baja, Clear Lake, Windsor, and San Francisco.
What is your favorite WorldMark resort? What do you
like about it?
Our favorite WM Resort is a tough one - We have two that are
equally favorites. Depoe Bay for the views of
crashing surf on the rocky bluff below. I grew up
camping a significant amount along the Oregon Coast,
so any of the coastal WM resorts bring back nostalgic
memories with family.
Victoria would have to be right up there in
competition with Depoe Bay. We love being on the Bay
in a penthouse watching the full flight pattern of the
seaplanes landing and taking off. There are an
abundance of activities in the town of Victoria. The
Empress Hotel and Parliament building greet your
arrival at the end of the bay giving the town a regal
ambiance. There is much to see and do in Victoria.
And of course the Butchart Gardens are a must. I
enjoy a daily walk along the waterfront on both sides
of the bay when staying there. Taking the ferry ride
to the Victoria WM resort is half the fun.
What things do you like to do when visiting this
resort?
Depoe Bay - Relaxing in the unit watching the waves
crash on the rocky shoreline below. Walking the
shoreline. Doing my daily trek up and down all the
stairs at this resort while getting snapshot views of
the ocean and cove - always take a break on the stair
case that overlooks the cove to view the seals if the
tide is out. Taking a walk over to the other side of
the cove and walking along the bluffs there, viewing
another angle of our WM Depoe Bay resort and enjoying
a panoramic view of the waves crashing along the
shoreline of the town of Depoe Bay. Taking my bike
and biking along 101 to the old highway south and up
to the viewpoint that overlooks Otter Crest (from the
Gift shop). Driving to one of two beaches for a walk
on the beach, either at Beverly Beach (accessing this
beach just south of Otter Crest via a long steep wooden
stairway) or by driving to our Gleneden Resort and
walking that beach. Driving to Newport to enjoy the
old town section along the bay next to the Newport
Bay. Visiting the touristy little shops, watching the
sea lions play "King of the Mountain" on the boat
docks next to the Underwater Sea Gardens. Hitting the
Bakery at Nye Beach (also another touristy section of
Newport). Going to the Oregon Aquarium. Heading up to
Lincoln City to let my wife enjoy the factory outlet
stores there. Hiking up the 5 mile round trip hike
north of Lincoln City that overlooks sweeping vistas
of the beach below, and to the south by the River that comes
in there (sorry, don't know the name). Eating out at
the Side Door Cafe that is next to the Gleneden WM
resort.
Victoria - Sitting watching the seaplanes land and
take off right in front of the WM resort. Walking
along the bay front. Biking along the Juan De Fuca
Straight. Taking a ride in the little passenger (tug
boat looking) ferries along the bay. Feeding the seal
next door at the fisherman's wharf. Things we have
enjoyed there in the town of Victoria are: Tea at the
Empress Hotel (also the brunch in the basement), the
Royal BC Museum, the wax museum, the Parliament
Building, the many touristy shops, the Miniature
World, the Victoria Butterfly Garden, the
ferry ride to and from Victoria, and one of our
most favorite things to do: the Butchart Gardens.
Would you share some of your favorite vacation web
links and/or photos from this resort and the
surrounding area?
Sorry, don't have any favorite vacation web links and
have not learned how to reduce my 5 mega pixel
pictures to transfer via email. I have a very slow 26
Kbps transfer speed with my modem.
Tell us about the people you travel with - are they
family? friends? co-workers? If you have children,
what are their travel preferences?
Travel mostly with my wife and son, daughter in law,
grandkids (ages 2 & 4, girl and boy), and other
friends that we rotate through so that all get to
enjoy the resorts with us.
What is your most exciting vacation memory?
My first stay and experience with Worldmark at Depoe
Bay on bonus time with my wife, Dad (before he passed
away), and sister.
Have you ever had some kind of "vacation disaster"
threaten to ruin your trip? Tell us your story!
No
What activities do you and your family enjoy
besides vacationing? (i.e. camping, walking, painting,
etc)
Hiking, skiing (down hill and cross country), walking,
biking, camping, eating out, watching movies, etc.
Vacationing, though, has to be our most favorite.
Do you have a hobby? What is it and what makes it
special to you?
Well, it seems that reading the WM forums has
become my hobby and addiction!!!! Cheryl's is scrap
booking.
Other than a WorldMark destination, what is your
favorite place to visit for rest and relaxation?
Well, I am not really a rest and relax kind of guy
and thus Cheryl doesn't get to do much of it either.
Though, she often stays behind to relax and scrap book
while I go off to walk, hike, bike etc. I would have
to say my most favorite non-WM destination would be
Banff and Jasper National Parks in Canada. There is
no more beautiful place, in my opinion!
If you could choose to live anywhere in the world,
where would that be and why?
The town of Banff in Banff National Park.
How did you choose to become a WorldMark owner?
Or, why did you choose WorldMark over other timeshare
companies?
A friend of mine at work had mentioned resale WM
memberships (they are owners). I knew they had some
coastal resorts in Oregon. My Dad had been given 6
months to live and since he loved the Coast, I wanted
to get him over there has much as possible before he
passed away. He made it to 4 resorts before passing
away 5 months later. We had previously bought a fixed
week in Whistler and were also looking for something
more flexible.
What do you enjoy most about being a WorldMark
owner?
The flexibility to take weekend getaway vacations to
a number of very nice coastal resorts
What do you like best about this WMO website
community you have helped create?
Spending time reading the Forums allows me to feel
that I am continually vacationing, always anticipating
our next vacation. Keeping informed on how best to
use my membership. Hearing it here first concerning
upcoming resorts and the good and bad inner workings
of WM/TW/Cendant.
What suggestions do you have to enhance it?
Set up some type of network amongst my forum WM
friends to find us the Winning Lottery Ticket!!!
Do you have ideas for contests and giveaways that
we could possibly incorporate in the future?
Some sort of Giveaway that would give us the Winning
Lottery Ticket!!!! We promise to share with who ever
finds it for me!!!
